His passion for coins and timepieces led to creation of a Rs 3 crore turnover bespoke watch brand

Next to computers and files, a fine collection of watches can be seen in Gaurav's bedroom. A 105-year-old grandfather's wall clock chimes in the background. About 7080 illuminated watch displays are of the HMT brand. He has a collection of 300 HMT watches. A bespoke pocket watch adorns his table. Gaurav himself wears an antique coin watch. His love of watches started at an early age.

His first wristwatch was a gift from his father when he was only 12 years old. Later, he had other watches. From an early age, he disassembled watches to study their internal mechanism and reassemble them. At that time, he also collected old coins. His passion for watches and numismatics continued as he grew. After studying under Maharajah Sakai Man Singh Vidyalaya in 2001 and graduating from the University of Rajasthan, Gaurav earned a Masters in Risk Management from Nottingham University Business School, UK.

You could choose to make your own watches with eclectic designs using antique coins, postage stamps, hand painted images, and pictures of deities. Watches are made with calligraphy or jewel encrusted dials as well.

“I was one of the lucky few to convert my passion into business but the luxury watch segment dominated by international brands was not an easy business to enter,” says Gaurav.

It was during his three-year stint in London working for Reliable Insurance Brokers that Gaurav began buying international watches. He remembers a coveted European fashion watch he bought with his first salary in 2007. It wasn't until 2011 that he seriously thought about making watches. Once, while he was fumbling with a watch, he noticed an old onesies coin with a hole, lying on the table. He inserted it into the clock face just for fun. He attracted people's attention wherever he went. Friends the tormented even to create one for them. Soon, the owner of a large collectible store in Mumbai contacts him and launches the brand in the city at a price of Rs 23,000. He sold his first watch collection in just two months. 

His love for watches began at an early age. His first wristwatch was a gift from his father when he was just 12 years old.Later, he got to own other watches. Even at a young age he would dismantle the watches to study the mechanism inside and put them back together.

He then sold around 5,060 watches each month at the same store and continued to add new models to his collection. Soon he also started selling his watches to the TAJ and Oberon hotel group. 2017. Currently, the company produces 1,800,000 watches per year which are sold online and through retail outlets in niche hotels. Around 70,008,000 watches are made for companies and some are custom-made to individual customer specifications.

Named "Jaipur Watch Company" for the brand, Gaurav states that the city of Jaipur itself is a brand. Jaipur is known all over the world, as it is a UNESCO World Heritage City, a popular tourist spot and renowned for its gemstones and jewelry. Jaipur's expert craftsmanship and the technological advantage provided by the experts trained at the Bengaluru plan guarantee that the brand maintains its quality.
